Mini Photog Shootout – February 2011   Leave a comment

On Thursday evening, I attended a mini photog shoot out at the Irvine Park in Orange, CA. There were several photographers and models who broke into several small groups. I was only able to photograph Everlyn because I was having a nice time working with her. In this group with Everlyn, we were working on natural light while the other group worked on wireless trigger and flashes. I didn’t bring all of my flash related equipment, so I wasn’t able to work with that group. Everlyn is modeling for fun, so she doesn’t have a portfolio or website of her own. To see more photos that I took of her, click here.

Knowing Your Niche In Photography   Leave a comment

I attended a photography workshop in Seal Beach, CA on Monday that was hosted by the SoCal Photog Shootout group on facebook. The different genres of photographer covered were “weddings”, “babies”, “families”, “seniors” and “commercial/editorial”. There were about 50 photographers and we broke off into smaller groups. Each group rotated into different genres so that everyone would get a chance to photograph each type and from this, each photographer would learn what she/he enjoyed and like the most. The photographer leaders were Amber Fox (seniors), Joe and Mirta Barnet (weddings), John Mireles (commercial/fashion), Bobby Brown (families), and Jen Disney (babies). I think “babies” was my absolute favorite.

The wedding couple were Crystal and Tony. The fashion model was Evan Harney. The family was Robert and Heather & sons. The baby models were Kaya, Rhett, Dylan and Austin. The seniors were Richard and Hanna. The make up and hair accessories were provided by Nicole Enjoli. Bouquet was provided by French Buckets.

Venice Beach   1 comment

I attended an event with the L.A. Shoot This! photography group (on Sunday) over the weekend in Venice, CA. A group of us photographers met with the models in Venice for a “group” photo shoot at the art/graffiti walls, on the beach and surrounding areas within walking distance from the art walls. While it was a mess to find parking because of all the traffic in the area from being so crowded with people everywhere, it was a really nice day and it was so nice to finally take photos of someone at sunset on a beach! The last time I was on a beach and took photos of someone who actually posed for me, it was cloudy and cold at the beach…even though it was sunny and clear two miles away.

While there were nine models on location, I was only able to photograph seven of them. The makeup and hair styling were provided by Michelle Cheng, Shirley Vazquez, and Frank Chen. Jewlery and accessories were provided by JustDaisy Jewlery.

It was a great day and my calf muscles were sore by the end from running  around on the beach!

Rachel Amara   1 comment

I met up with a few photographers and model, Rachel Amara, this afternoon for a last minute photography get-together in San Juan Capistrano, CA. I actually worked with Rachel before, last July at my first photography workshop/event with the SoCal Photog Shootout from facebook. You can see some of the old photo work here. I really enjoy working with her.

Anyway…we, the photographers, were experimenting on some flash units and Rachel was gracious enough to model for us. Thanks to Matt Saville who coordinated this get-together and helped us out, I learned a lot about wireless flash! You can see some of Rachel’s new photo set at: http://anastasia.zenfolio.com/p412769233

Premier Bridal Fair – Yorba Linda   1 comment

Garrett asked me if I would do fashion or editorial photography when I was doing a photo session with him last week. I told him that I didn’t think it was something I would be interested in doing even though I didn’t really close the door on it. He didn’t know that I would attend a bridal fair this past Sunday which was held at the Nixon Library in Yorba Linda, CA.

Someone from my yoga class at the gym is a floral designer for weddings. Her mom is a wedding coordinator. The floral designer asked/invited me to do some volunteer photgraphy for the fashion show at the bridal fair. I accepted the offer because it was an excuse for me to get out of the house and get some photography done.

There were two wedding fashion shows during the event – one at 12pm and one at 2pm – and the 12pm show was the one to be at because Christine Devine from FOX 11 was the Celebrity emcee!

This was my second time attending a bridal fair/festival, but this recent one was the first time that I actually knew people working there!  This was also my first time photographing a fashion/runway show. I enjoyed myself at the event, and I had fun photographing the fashion shows. My photos could have been better, but seeing that this was my first time photographing a fashion/runway show and fashion photography wasn’t exactly something I had my heart set on, I didnt expect my own work to “wow” me. I might attend another bridal fair and try photographing a fashion show for fun in the future, but at the same time, I’m not really sure. After all, fashion/runway photography is not something I care for.  On a brighter note, I did network with a few people while at the bridal fair. I actually didn’t plan to network with anyone. I didn’t have to pay the admission fee because I was a volunteer photographer and I was happy just being there, but I’m always happy to network with people.
