Premier Bridal Fair – Yorba Linda   1 comment

Garrett asked me if I would do fashion or editorial photography when I was doing a photo session with him last week. I told him that I didn’t think it was something I would be interested in doing even though I didn’t really close the door on it. He didn’t know that I would attend a bridal fair this past Sunday which was held at the Nixon Library in Yorba Linda, CA.

Someone from my yoga class at the gym is a floral designer for weddings. Her mom is a wedding coordinator. The floral designer asked/invited me to do some volunteer photgraphy for the fashion show at the bridal fair. I accepted the offer because it was an excuse for me to get out of the house and get some photography done.

There were two wedding fashion shows during the event – one at 12pm and one at 2pm – and the 12pm show was the one to be at because Christine Devine from FOX 11 was the Celebrity emcee!

This was my second time attending a bridal fair/festival, but this recent one was the first time that I actually knew people working there!  This was also my first time photographing a fashion/runway show. I enjoyed myself at the event, and I had fun photographing the fashion shows. My photos could have been better, but seeing that this was my first time photographing a fashion/runway show and fashion photography wasn’t exactly something I had my heart set on, I didnt expect my own work to “wow” me. I might attend another bridal fair and try photographing a fashion show for fun in the future, but at the same time, I’m not really sure. After all, fashion/runway photography is not something I care for.  On a brighter note, I did network with a few people while at the bridal fair. I actually didn’t plan to network with anyone. I didn’t have to pay the admission fee because I was a volunteer photographer and I was happy just being there, but I’m always happy to network with people.

Garrett was a model that I had a pleasure to work with this afternoon. We had some concerns about the weather this morning and while it was still cloudy by the afternoon, the weather was great for a photo shoot! We agreed to meet in Claremont Village (aka Downtown area of Claremont, CA), which was a very scenic and photogenic area.

We had a lot of fun during our photo session. He did get to preview most of the photos before I downloaded them onto a CD for him, and he was really happy with what he saw! Do you want to see photos from this session?

L.A. Smug Meeting Feb. 2010: Lawrence Chan   Leave a comment

I attended a SMUG meeting yesterday evening at The Global Cafe in Studio City, CA. A SMUG is a place where a photographer can learn, teach and meet up with other photographers who share the same passion. It’s also how photographers can tell others or discover what’s happening in each other’s world. SMUGs are a great way to connect with other photographers and add a few weapons to their creative arsenal.

The topic of the evening was “Marketing Techniques” (including social media) for part time and full time photographers and the presentation speaker was Lawrence Chan from Tofurious. It was an interesting seminar and I learned quite a bit. Thanks, Lawrence, for the presentation!

During the seminar, I learned that I should have one photo blog for clients and another one for personal photography. This one happens to be on for clients. My personal photography blog is at
